Code P0506 - 2005 Ford Crown Victoria - low idle, stalling

Customer Complaint: Intermittent stalling Action Taken: Test drove the car and was able to reproduce the condition. Also noticed a low idle. Hooked up my Genisys Scan Tool and found a history code P0506. Checked Idle speed at 500 rpm, should be around 750 rpm P0506 : Idle Control System RPM Lower Than Expected Normally you would jump to the IAC ( Idle Air Control ) but this vehicle does not have one as it is Throttle by wire (electronic throttle control - ETC). Description: Vehicles with electronic throttle control (ETC) This DTC is set when the powertrain control module (PCM) detects an engine idle speed that is less than the desired RPM. Possible Causes: 1) Air intake restriction 2) Exhaust restriction 3) Engine mechanical fault. 4) Damaged electronic throttle body (ETB) 5) Damaged PCM This DTC is informational only and it may be accompanied by other DTCs. Diagnose other DTCs first. If other DTCs are not present inspect the intake air system for air restrictions and damage. If no concerns are present, clear the DTC and retest. Solution: I found carbon build up in the Throttle Body at and around the butterfly inside the throttle body. Some brake wash and a rag quickly removed the carbon build up. Tested, and Idle speed was up from 500 rpm to 800 rpm. Test drove and the vehicle performed as it should. Fixed!!

1999 Ford Ranger Automatic, when in overdrive the light is blinking

Question: 1999 Ford Ranger Automatic, when overdrive light is blinking, the transmission shifts hard. When not blinking, transmission is smooth. Any ideas on the problem? Answer: I would have the transmission codes scanned to be certain, but It sound like the Torque Lock Converter is going bad. This will give you a TCC code and anytime the transmission has an issue, the O/D will not work and will flash the light. The Fix Would Be to have the Torque Converter replaced. Scan Tools List

Getting the best deal on a New Car

Getting the Best Deal: Purchase Price and Trade-Ins
The key to getting the best deal is to understand where dealerships reap their profits and where they serve as middlemen. A car dealer's main sources of profit, in no particular order, are: the new vehicle's purchase price; trade-ins and resulting used-car sales; financing and insurance; "back-end" products and services, such as rustproofing and service contracts; and vehicle service (repair and maintenance). On this page, we'll deal with the first two of those factors: the new car's purchase price and your old car's trade-in value.
Purchase Price The price you pay for a new car hinges on a number of variables. They include but aren't limited to: >the invoice price; >dealer holdback; >customer incentives; >factory-to-dealer incentives; >supply and demand; >and your car's trade-in value (in some states). Trade Ins: The car you currently own probably represents profit. The question is, whose profit will it be? With few exceptions, you'll get the most money for your used car by selling it privately. That's because dealers pay wholesale prices — not retail prices — for used cars. They sell them at retail, and the difference between the two is the only reason they bother. A used car's profit margin, though based on a lower selling price, is much greater than that of a new car. Don't underestimate your car's value to a dealer. Source: Yahoo Autos

Need to Find what size wheels will fit my car

I have searched around for a source for this question and came up with this site called SizeItUp.com. The site does require you to register an email address but information you can access if amazing. Select your vehicle up to 2009 models included and you are given the exact tire size that came on the vehicle plus any optional size. Then chose the Size you think you would like to install, like some 22" rims for example. The site will give you a list of all tire sizes and dimensions that accompany the 22" rims. They take all the guess work out of the equation. SizeItUp.com is truly a great tool to add to the Tool Box!

How much transmission fluid goes in a 2005 Sonata

Question:
I have a 2005 Hyundai Sonata. I just need to know what to do to change the transmission oil and how much does it need?
Answer:
The total capacity is 8.5 qts. Simply draining the pan does not get all fluid out of system, so drain and fill capacity is usually about 3-4 qts. Remove the drain plug, drain the fluid, note amount drained out, and take care to check level frequently when filling so not to overfill. Hyundai recommends using only Hyundai SP111 trans fluid.

Gas Mileage Lower than Normal?

Today’s engine management systems rely on many different sensor inputs to regulate fuel economy, performance and emissions.
Symptom: Poor Fuel Economy
Probable Causes: Fuel Rich Codes (P0172 and/or P0175)
With the price of gasoline, you don’t want to ignore this kind of problem for long. When fuel economy is down, you may find any number of codes: • P0172 and/or P0175 are rich codes, and indicate a general rich air/fuel condition. The underlying cause may be anything that increases fuel delivery, such as excessive fuel pressure, a defective fuel pressure regulator, plugged return line, or leaky injectors. Decreased airflow from a dirty air filter or restricted air intake misleads the mass airflow sensor or engine management system into believing the engine is using more air or is under more load than actual.
