1996 K2500 died while driving and not getting gas

I have a 1996 K2500 4×4 5.7 liter that suddenly stopped running while I was driving. It had to be towed and now I am stumped as to what the problem is. The filter is fine, all fuses have been checked, if I pour gas into the carburator it fires up it is just not getting gas to the carburator. The pump is okay. Anybody have any suggestions as to what I can do to try and get this truck running?

Response:
This should be a Fuel injected engine, and it is going to require lots of fuel pressure. So first thing I would do is put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see where your at. You need to be around 55 to 62 KOEO(key on engine off). If it is less than that, swap out the fuel filter as it can possibly increase if it is clogged. I have gotten as much as 5 more psi doing this. If you are still below the minimum 55 psi, You will need to replace the fuel pump (quite common)

Diagnosing an Air Conditioning Leak in your car's AC System

Air Conditioning Leak

If your Air Conditioning System seems to loose its cool, no pun intended, it is most likely do to a lose of freon. Freon itself is colorless and can be difficult to locate. Most shop mechanics will add approved fluorescent dye to the Air Conditioning system in order to help locate the leak. Once the dye has been added to the AC system and freon level topped off. Run the engine for 10 - 15 minutes with the AC on Max. Look for signs of the dye around all AC system components. Once you see where the dye has leaked out it is just a matter of swapping out a bad o-ring or replacing the compressor (shown above). The Dye can be easier to see under UV light but is not necessary in all cases.

2001 Audi A4 trouble starting

I have an Audi A4 2001. sometimes when I start it, after moving it, just cant start even though the radio lights came on. But after say one hour, when I try to Start the engine, it comes on.What could be the problem? And the brakes are hard to press.

Response:
Thus could be caused by a bad starter assembly. Best way to test this is to check for voltage at the starter when it will not start…. if it is getting voltage and not turning over, you guess it = replace the starter.

Brake pedal feel is firm, but brakes lack sufficient stopping power or fade
1.Check the operation of the brake booster and brake booster check valve. Replace worn or failed parts.
2.Check brake linings and brake surface areas for glazing and replace worn or damaged parts.
3.Check for seized hydraulic parts and linkages, and clean or replace as needed.

2003 chevy truck Air Conditioning Issue

I have dual climate controll but the driver side blowes warm air all the time. The passenger side works fine. Is there a controller somewhere and how can i get to it?

http://www.freeautomechanic.com/airconditioning.html

There is a vaccuum door in the assemble that controls cold/warm air mixture. Either the door is stuck to the heat side or the diaphram is bad. Located:Behind the dashboard you will see on the assy a thing that looks like a pancake with a vaccuum line attached to it there is also a rod that you cant see going into the heater box.

ignition help

can any one give me instructions on how to take out and put a new ignition in my 96 lincoln town car not chiped

Response:
The Ignition Switch (electrical) is located on the top of the steering column assy. So if you unbolt the column it will drop down enough to replace the switch. The Lock Cyclender Assy is different. Remove the Steering Wheel Lock Nut. Mark the Wheel and Shaft for alignment on reassembly. With a Steering Wheel Puller remove the Steering Wheel. Remove the Horn assy. Remove the Steering Wheel Lock Plate by depressing to remove the retaing clip. Remove the Turn Signal Switch assy and reveal 1 screw that holds the Lock Cylender in place. Reverse for assembly.

problem with gas gauge on 95 Buick Lesabre

The other day I had an emergency and went about 95 mph to get where I needed to be, on the way my gas gauge started jumping a lot. It had around a quarter of gas and it jumps past full and down to empty and just keeps moving. The other day we replaced radiator because the head broke on it. could that have anything to do with it? What would I need to look at?

Response:
Your Fuel Gauge has a Fuse marked Gauges in your Fuse Panel and is also connected at the Fuel Pump Relay then 4 wires continue to the Fuel Cell. 2 wires go to the Gauge and the other 2 run the Fuel Pump. Check your connections under the hood but I believe you will find the short wire harness inside the fuel cell is making intermediate connections

I have a leak in the air conditioning

I have a GMC Jimmy "98" V6 Vortex engine with a leak in the air conditioning. I had it recharged last year and it lasted about 1 month. Do they have something like a radiator leak fix that I can use for the air or something else?

Response:
1) They used to tint (color) the freon when filling, and watch for leaks. That was years ago. Not aware of any type of stop leak that can be added to the freon. There are several places in the system that can develop leaks.
2) Advance Auto Parts carries a stop leak for almost everything including air conditioning. Now mind you I'm not recommending these products, just telling you they have them.

96 Monte Carlo with a 3.4 liter motor he keeps burning up his alternator

my friend has a 96 Monte Carlo with a 3.4 liter motor he keeps burning up his alternator,he has replaced it 3 times.the 2nd one was he did not hook up the cowl for it to get air to cool it but it has happened again any ideas or maybe a cure for this would be helpful.

Response:

1) Disconnect that amp and subs.

2) Sounds like something is drawing a lot of amps. Has he been blowing fuses and replaced them with a higher amp fuse? Do any wires feel hot or warm. The fan belt could be over tighten,(this is bad for the bearings). Get it to a garage and have them check it.

3) One of the sensors is bad. Check your voltage at each sensor both cold and hot and compare to specs. Usually high voltage (battery voltage) is a cold cycle circuit. Low voltage (half battery voltage) is the run or warm circuit. This triggers the ECM to set the cycle for ignition and fuel pump. A common problem with the distributor model 4 cyl was the pickup coil and reluctor in what was known as the "Hall Effect" Ignition.

4) hall effect is possible. an automatic shut down relay is possible. another strange thing is the map sensor. these are all easy checks to find out no meters or other things. start with the shut down relay which is under the hood in the relay center and switch it with another relay of the same number like the ac or what ever and see if it runs when warm. for the test on the map unplug the vacuum and see if it runs (it will act flooded but it will run) if it is the map and if all else fails it can be the pick-up coil know as the hall effect. in the distributor flat plate their when cap is removed lol and have a great day.

AC heater blower only works on 2 speeds

I have a 1991 Toyota Camry and the heater or AC blower only works on two speeds. I looked for the fan blower motor resister but could not find it...the fan speed works on the 2 higher speeds only.

Response:
The resistor is located under the blower motor housing. It can be removed by removing the 2 holding screws. Review the diagram above for reference.

1994 Chevy S-10 Died while driving and won't start

I have a 1994 Chevy S-10 2.2L Engine. Drove fine to work and on the way home out of nowhere the engine died and won't start. I hit the key and it turns over but now it sounds different and will not start. It has spark and i tried starter fluid and still won't start. What could it be?

Answer:
The 2.2L engine has a common problem with failing timing chain tensioners that break and cause the timing chain to jump at at once. this throws off the valve timing and causes no compression. In most cases you can just install a new timing chain and tensioner and problem solved. In some cases not only does the chain and tensioner need to be replaced but the valves can sometimes get bent, usually the exhaust valves. So after you replace the timing chain and tensioner perform a compression test, if no compression is found, you can be sure the next step is removing the head to see how many valves need to be replaced. Don't forget to replace the head bolts at the same time as they are one time use only bolts.

1996 Ford Crown Victoria - vehicle starts jumping like its hung in high gear

When I start to slow down, the vehicle starts jumping like its hung in high gear and I have to press the o/d off button on my gear shift to stop it. Also, while driving down the road, when I let up on the accelerator the transmission starts jumping.

Answer:
One of the solenoids or valves in the transmission's valve body is hanging up . Look at the fluid color ( wipe stick off on white paper) if it is brown instead of bright pink, you can try a filter and fluid service ( make sure to use Mercon V this is full synthetic fluid required in this vehicle) . If the fluid is pretty pink you can try putting an additive called " Shudder Fix " ( can be found at auto parts store ) this may be a good thing to try before tearing apart the transmission. You may want to check the VSS ( vehicle speed sensor to make sure it is sending the proper signals ) also before tearing it apart.Feel free to check out some of the other resources on the website as there may be some helpful information available.

P0340 and P0353 are currently present codes were cleared and came back do you think its a wiring problem or both components are defective

I have a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager. P0340 and P0353 are currently present codes were cleared and came back do you think its a wiring problem or both components are defective

Answer:

P0340 : Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction

P0353 : Ignition Coil C Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction

Looks to me like one of the coils needs to be replaced and would probably take care of the other issue. I would replace the coil/plug/wire ( which ever one you need) and then clear codes and test it again. You can swap around parts from one cylinder to the other to test them.

what causes the reduced power engine light to come on

I have a 2000 Pontiac Firebird, what causes the reduced power engine light to come on ?
Answer:
When the vehicle computer receives voltage signals that are abnormal it will come on. If this seems to only occur when the engine is cold. Try letting the vehicle run till it reaches normal operating temperature ( between 180 and 220) before driving it and see if it runs OK, You may have a faulty engine temp sensor that is sending the wrong information to the computer. Does the check engine light come on??? If so extract the codes and this may help narrow down the problem.

truck starts the fuel pressure shows real good then it shuts off

I have a 1997 Ford F-150When truck starts the fuel pressure shows real good then when you hit the gas peddle it shuts off. They are both working fine until accelerator is pushed. Computer was tested and works fine. However no diagnostic codes are being shown.
Answer:
Fuel pressure should be 30 psi at idle and when accelerator is pressed it should rise to 40 psi. If the pressure drops instead of increasing :
1) a vacuum leak at fuel pressure regulator
2) failed fuel pressure regulator
3) failing fuel pump.

a/c is blowing warm and my engine is overheating

my 2002 Hyundai Elantra a/c is blowing warm and my engine is overheating. The belts are all in place. there are no leaks of coolant on the ground. There are no noises coming from the water pump. Do you have any ideas what may be the problem? I ran over a deer a few weeks back on the interstate. The car has ran fine since, but I did sustain some damage around the radiator (braces got bent up). I am wondering if this problem has popped up after the fact. Answer: Most likely cause (since you hit a deer) would be that there is a hole in the A/C Condenser (Reference Diagram) that is located in front of the radiator. This would allow the freon to escape. As for the overheating, since some brackets were bent, etc. there is probably some damage that was done to the fan assembly not allowing the fan to function for the radiator. This would make it overheat. Another thing that would cause both issues would be air flow restriction. If there is deer fur stuck in the condenser and blocking air flow, neither the A/C system would work properly nor would it allow air to flow through the radiator also causing the engine to overheat.

issue with the brakes. The pedal is soft and tends to go to the floor

I am in Australia and we have a 97 Chevy Silverado that has been converted to right hand drive. We have an issue with the brakes. The pedal is soft and tends to go to the floor. We have changed master cylinders, pads, discs etc. etc. and now have bypassed the ABS and find that they work much better, but still a soft pedal. Our mechanic is wondering if there is a specific way of bleeding the ABS as this is where there seems to be some air that cannot be gotten rid of. Normal procedures are not working (normal in Aus anyway...) It is not an uncommon problem I believe in converted vehicles, but aside from being unsafe, our truck is now unsaleable until the ABS is reconnected and the pedal is firmer. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Already Tried: Bleeding brakes new master cylinder new discs new pads bypassing ABS
Answer:
The ABS system on this vehicle has always been problematic. There are a couple of things that will help when you bleed this system. This is a two person procedure and may require a pint or more of brake fluid per wheel. The old fashioned manual method with modification is best here, starting at the right rear wheel use a clear tube on the bleeder in a small glass of brake fluid crack the bleeder, have the person in the cap depress the brake pedal halfway never more and hold, the other person closes the bleeder and you both wait 15 - 20 seconds then the pedal is raised, the bleeder is cracked and the pedal is pressed, bleeder closed, pedal held halfway down etc. until all air stops coming out of that corner. Continue around to all the wheels in the same manner. Once you have run a gallon of fluid through use a Tech2 scanner or a scanner that allows you to operated the automated bleed procedure in the ABS computer. After doing the automated bleed procedure once go back and re bleed the wheels manually. There are accumulator pistons in the ABS hydraulic unit that may be leaking, pull the small rubber cap from the two at the bottom of the unit and slide a small screwdriver in the hole until it bottoms on the piston and have a helper step on the brake pedal if the screwdriver is pushed out the piston is moving and the hydraulic unit is junk and must be replaced. These systems are soft low pedals when they are working properly and have been the bane of many a mechanic over the years I will be glad to see the last of them in the junkyard.
