I have a 1999 buick lesabre, just purchased, kept having a problem staying on unless i consistently put gas to the pedal while driving otherwise keep it moving, if sitting idle it shut off, oil was black so took to jiffy lube got total oil work up costing almost $200. check engine light was on they checked it n said mass air flow and spark plugs needed replacing, got them changed but the person who changed spark plug wires had firing range wrong so car was shaky, he did something to it and car drove smoothly no shaking no nothing, drove round the block couple times..nothing so proceeded to go to store an about 10 minutes later i noticed the car was quiet and slowing down, realized it had shut off..i tried giving it gas while turning on like ive done before that got it running and nothing. so called guy bk out he did something and then the car kept making screeching type sound he claimed starter problem. got starter tested starter good. now another guy checks and he says could be flywheel but couldn't say have to take to shop which i have no money for. finally another guy takes a look and says my harmonic balancer isn't moving and it should be turning even if the car won't start and it might have locked the engine; however i read that the engine knocks prior to locking up which it never did ever. So in your opinion what do you think since you seem to know your stuff. thanks. as a woman this is driving me nuts.

Buick Verano pricing to start at $23,470
The price for the upcoming Buick Verano, the brand's first compact since the 1990s, will be $23,470, including shipping charges, General Motors said today.
The price is considerably lower than the Japanese compact sedans that GM is pitting the Verano against in the entry-luxury segment: the Acura TSX ($30,495 with shipping) and the Lexus IS 250 ($34,170 with shipping).
"Given some of the great features the car is going to have, that's about the price we expected," said Sam Slaughter, dealer principal at Sellers Buick-GMC in suburban Detroit, which was the nation's top-selling Buick store last year. "We don't want it to be the el cheapo car that's going after the beer-can market."
Still, the Verano price is "going to be a little tight" with that of the Regal mid-sized sedan, the next car up in Buick's lineup, said Lynn Thompson, a Springfield, Mo., dealer who sells Buick, GMC and Cadillac. The base Regal has a sticker price of $27,530, including shipping.
Buick last marketed a compact in the United States when the Skylark was sold from the 1992 to 1998 model years.
The Verano, which goes on sale by year end, will be offered in three models. The top model will have a sticker price of $26,850 including shipping. All three models will get a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine combined with a six-speed automatic transmission that delivers 180 hp.
The Verano is hitting the market at a time when more U.S. consumers are shifting to smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles.
GM has touted the Verano's quiet cabin and standard features not typically found on a car in its price range, such as a 7-inch color-touch radio display with IntelliLink, the infotainment system for Buick and GMC.
Higher-end Verano models will receive the same leather used in Buick's flagship LaCrosse sedan, and touches such as push-button start, a heated steering wheel and heated seats that activate automatically in colder temperatures.
The Verano "expands the brand's reach," Tony DiSalle, Buick's U.S. vice president of marketing, said in a statement. "We're inviting new customers into the Buick family, giving us the opportunity and privilege of building longtime Buick loyalty."
GM hopes to build on the success of the Chevrolet Cruze compact, which is built on the same platform as the Verano. The Cruze, which replaced the Cobalt in Chevy's lineup last fall, was the top-selling U.S. compact sedan in July and August.
The Cruze starts at $17,470, including shipping.
Editor's note: An earlier version of this story said it had been decades since Buick marketed a compact car in the U.S. market. Buick sold a compact, the Skylark, as recently as the 1998 model year.

Buick developing hybrid model using Volt technology
DETROIT (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Co. is developing a Buick brand car using the Chevrolet Volt's plug-in hybrid technology as the automaker expands its line of fuel-efficient vehicles, according to two people familiar with the project.
Designers and engineers are working on a version of the plug-in hybrid Opel Ampera, which was modeled after the Volt and scheduled for sale in Europe this year, with a Buick grille and front-end styling, said the people, who didn't want to be named because the plans are private.
Sales of the Buick version would begin in 2013 if it gets final approval, the people said.
The challenge for GM will be making the car different enough and adding amenities to justify selling it for a higher price under the Buick brand, said Jim Hall, principal of 2953 Analytics Inc., a consulting firm in Birmingham, Mich.
The Volt sells for $41,000 before a federal tax incentive of $7,500.
Reducing weight
"The Volt is already well-equipped," Hall said in an interview. "It's missing power seats and that's about it. What else can you add to make it a premium car?"
The plan could work if GM equips the Buick version with expensive advanced materials that reduce weight and improve the car's electric-only range or driving performance, Hall said.
GM CEO Dan Akerson has said he plans to sell a car using GM's Voltec gasoline-electric drive system among each of the automaker's four brands.
He told analysts at a conference in January that GM must continue developing new technology to prepare for higher fuel prices.
Rob Peterson, a GM spokesman, declined to comment on a possible plug-in hybrid Buick and reiterated Akerson's comments that GM wants to do more with its Voltec technology.
"We have talked about a variety of ways to leverage the Voltec drive system," Peterson said.
Buick, Opel
The Buick version of the car may not be drastically different than the Ampera or the Volt because GM wants to begin sales quickly, the people said.
GM already shares vehicles between Buick and Opel, with the new Buick Regal midsize sedan and the Opel Insignia featuring similar styling and platform.
If the new car is too similar to the Volt, some consumers may see it as only a look-alike version of another vehicle in GM's line, a practice referred as "badge engineering," said Rebecca Lindland, an analyst with IHS Automotive, a research firm based in Lexington, Mass.
"Why are they badge engineering?" Lindland said. "The Ampera really is just the Volt."
GM is looking at putting the Voltec system in other future models, people familiar with the matter have said.
Using the system in larger models is a challenge because they need more battery power, which adds weight to the car and reduces the vehicle's pure electric driving range, Hall said.

problem with gas gauge on 95 Buick Lesabre
The other day I had an emergency and went about 95 mph to get where I needed to be, on the way my gas gauge started jumping a lot. It had around a quarter of gas and it jumps past full and down to empty and just keeps moving. The other day we replaced radiator because the head broke on it. could that have anything to do with it? What would I need to look at?
Response:
Your Fuel Gauge has a Fuse marked Gauges in your Fuse Panel and is also connected at the Fuel Pump Relay then 4 wires continue to the Fuel Cell. 2 wires go to the Gauge and the other 2 run the Fuel Pump. Check your connections under the hood but I believe you will find the short wire harness inside the fuel cell is making intermediate connections

Pontiac owners are migrating to Chevrolet
Thirteen of Buick-GMC dealer Kim Borcherding's customers had Pontiac leases that ended in March, but none of them bought or leased another new vehicle from her.
Six of them bought an import. Three bought a Chevrolet, which Borcherding's Cincinnati store doesn't sell. One bought a used vehicle from her, and three bought out their leases.
Those were their only options if they wanted to stay her customers, Borcherding says. Her current inventory is “just nothing that is in their league,” she says, since the lowest priced new vehicle she has costs nearly $25,000.
Like most Pontiac owners, Borcherding's customers need moderately priced sedans not found in the current Buick-GMC showroom.
As a result, General Motors Co.'s retention efforts are shifting most of its former Pontiac owners to Chevrolet.
“They have nowhere else to turn because we don't have anything else to offer,” Borcherding says. “They're not going to wait forever.”
In the year leading up to GM's April 27, 2009, announcement that it would kill Pontiac, 37 percent of owners trading in a Pontiac bought a GM product, according to data from Edmunds.com. That percentage has stayed nearly flat at 36 percent.
But the preferred GM brand for repeat buyers has shifted. Before GM decided to eliminate Pontiac, the brand competed evenly with Chevrolet for Pontiac owners' next purchases, with each brand averaging 15 percent. And Pontiac won that battle in the months immediately following the death sentence.
But from Jan. 1 -- when GM's supply of Pontiacs had dwindled to 800 -- through March, one-fourth of Pontiac owners chose Chevrolet for their next purchase. To compare, Buick-GMC sales from Pontiac trade-ins have only increased to 10 percent this year, from 6 percent the year before the Pontiac verdict.
That's fine with some Buick-GMC dealers who either own Chevrolet stores down the street or never depended much on Pontiac sales. But for others, the loss of Pontiac and the shift to Buick-GMC's premium image has meant a drop in revenue. Their wait for less expensive sedans continues while Pontiac owners slowly slip away to the local Chevrolet dealer.
“None of them are buying a Buick-GMC because there's nothing really comparable in the Buick-GMC line,” says Mark Frost, general manager of Jim Ellis Buick-GMC outside Atlanta.
The GMC Terrain small crossover, starting at $24,995, including shipping, has the lowest starting sticker price in the brands' lineups, not counting pickups. The least-expensive car, the Buick LaCrosse, starts at $26,995, including shipping.
Dealers will have to wait until the 2012 model year to sell a less expensive sedan: the base version of the new Buick Regal. A premium-trim-level Regal is on its way to dealerships with a $26,995 price tag, and the base level will cost less than that.
Frost also manages a Chevrolet store, and 10 of the 14 Pontiac trade-ins he has seen since November have been for Chevrolets. His dealership group took over the Buick-Pontiac-GMC franchise a year ago, so it has never really depended on Pontiac sales. But he still advertises service to Pontiac owners through the updated “free agent” lists GM provides to all its dealers.
GM has also offered Pontiac owners four free oil changes and $1,000 off a new GM vehicle.
“The loyalty rates of Pontiac owners are in line with our expectations,” GM spokesman Tom Henderson says. He declined to give data on retention rates or efforts to keep Pontiac customers in the GM fold.
One dealer sees used cars as a way to retain Pontiac owners. New York dealer Mike Mullaney's Buick-GMC store doesn't have inexpensive new products for his Pontiac customers, so he's trying to put them in late-model used Pontiacs. That way, he hopes he can keep from losing his customers to the local Chevrolet dealer and maybe be able to offer them a smaller, less expensive Buick in a year or two.
Says Mullaney: “If we can maintain that customer for one more product cycle, we'll be in good shape.”

1996 Buick Regal acelleration problems
Recently started - when accelerating or going up at hill it will momentarily jerk.
Any ideas what might cause this?
Response:
1) Try a better grade of gas. IE Higher Octane instead of who has the lowest price. Check your owners manual for the recommended fuel octane rating. You may be suprised.
2) Get your catalytic convertor checked to and if it is bad and since the car has less than 100k on it they have to change it for free its a federal law that i learned about when i need mine changed but i was over about 1000 miles just my luck lol

1999 buick regal climate control problem - Air Conditioning Problem DTC B0361,B0441
1999 Buick Regal climate control problem . When I started, A/C unit hot air comes out on one side and cold on the other side and now 1 week later the heater or A/C are not working.
Answer:
2 things that can cause this problem. A low refrigerant level in the A/C system can make the passenger side colder than the drivers side. Until all the refrigerant leaked out and now the A/C isn't working at all. You will need to get the refrigerant level checked in the system to determine this. The other thing is the control head for the A/C unit. GM has a bulletin for this. # 02-01-39-001. I have added the TSB below. To tell if this is the problem, You would need to get the codes checked in the HVAC module. and see if the scan tool can control the temperature doors.
#02-01-39-001: HVAC Temperature Difference Side to Side and/or DTC B0361, B0441 Set (Replace
HVAC Controller, Splice into Backlighting Circuit) - (Feb 7, 2002)
Subject: HVAC Temperature Difference Side to Side and/or DTC B0361, B0441
Set (Replace HVAC Controller, Splice into Backlighting Circuit)
Models: 1997-99 Buick Century, Regal
1998-99 Oldsmobile Intrigue
with RPO CJ2
Condition
Some customers may comment on a temperature variation between the left and right hand ducts.
Typical concerns may include that the right side of the vehicle cools down but the left stays warm or
the opposite. This condition is sometimes associated by the customer with a recent service visit for
other non-related repairs. The codes, DTC B0361 or B0441, may be present but will not illuminate a
telltale lamp.
Cause
The HVAC controller unit and the TEMP door actuator motors rely on a feedback system that supplies
the controller with count values in order to accurately adjust the air temperature. When battery power is
interrupted to the HVAC controller, the current actuator position values are lost. When power is
restored, the controller will perform a "sweep test" of the doors from full cold to full hot and record the
end values for reference. Over time, the TEMP doors may develop some flexing when run to their
extremes. This flexing allows the count values to run out of range (beyond 0-255) and results in DTC
code B0361 or B0441 to set.
Correction
A revised HVAC controller has been released with new programming that allows for a wider tolerance
in the expected range of the TEMP door. Replace the controller using the procedure below:
Important: On the 1997 Buick Century and Regal, additional steps are required. You will have to run a
jumper wire to the new HVAC controller. Be sure to follow the additional 1997 model year steps below.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Important: On the Buick Regal, the console must first be removed to access the HVAC
controller. For Buick Century and Oldsmobile Intrigue, skip to Step 10.
2. Apply the parking brake and block wheels.
3. Shift the transmission to first gear.
4. Remove the console trim plate and disconnect the electrical harness.
5. Disconnect the cigarette lighter sockets.
6. Remove the console storage box.
7. Remove the console control plate and disconnect electrical harness for traction control and
heated seats, if equipped.
8. Remove the console retaining bolts.
9. Remove the console from the vehicle.
10.Remove the HVAC trim panel, if equipped.
11.Remove the HVAC controller retaining bolts.
12.Disconnect the electrical harness.
13.Discard the HVAC controller.
Important: At this point, you must refer to the 1997 Buick section below if working on that
model and year. The section below includes steps to revise vehicle wiring to enable HVAC
controller backlighting.
14.If the vehicle is a 1997 Buick Century or Regal, refer to the section below titled 1997 Buicks
(Enabling Backlighting Circuit).
15.Connect the HVAC controller electrical harness and install the controller retaining bolts.
16.Install the control module trim plate, if equipped. Skip to Step 23 for the Buick Century and
Oldsmobile Intrigue. Continue below for the Buick Regal.
17.Install the console to the vehicle.
18.Install the console retaining bolts.
19.Install the console control plate and connect the electrical harness for traction control and
heated seats, if equipped.
20.Install the console storage box.
21.Connect the cigarette lighter sockets.
22.Install the console trim plate and connect the electrical harness.
23.Shift the transmission to PARK and unblock the wheels.
24.Connect the negative battery cable.
Additional Steps for 1997 Buicks (Enabling Backlighting Circuit)
1. Remove the radio retaining bolts.
2. Remove the radio and disconnect the electrical harness.
3. Prepare an 457.2 mm (18 in) long, 18 gauge jumper wire. If multiple colors are available, it
would be the most convenient to use grey to continue the backlighting circuit in the same color.
4. Locate and splice one end of the jumper wire to the grey wire occupying pin location F4 at the
radio harness.
5. Position the radio back into the I/P and route the jumper wire down to the HVAC controller
harness location.
6. Using a new terminal (GM P/N 12146447 Micro-Pak .35-.50), attach and install the other end
of the jumper wire into cavity C16 of the HVAC controller harness. The row and column
position indications are molded into the body of the HVAC controller at the harness location.
7. Connect the electrical harness to the HVAC controller.
8. Connect the negative battery cable and test the HVAC backlighting by turning on the headlamps
and varying the backlighting intensity.
9. Install the radio retaining bolts.
10.Install the I/P upper trim panel.
11.Refer back to Step 15 of the Correction section to complete the procedure. (You will have
already connected the electrical harness).

2003 Buick Century and the light that shows the odometer
I have a 2003 Buick Century and the light that shows the odometer and what gear you are in is burned out. How does one replace it? It looks like to me that I would have to take the top dashboard off to replace it. What light bulb would I need?
Answer:
you would have to replace the entire instrument panel cluster since the lights are not serviceable for the odometer and PRNDL display. I can provide instructions to replace the instrument panel cluster if you wish but you will likely have to get a cluster from a dealership.

can u tell me what i need to do to loosen the bolt that holds on an idler pully
QUESTION:
Can you tell me what I need to do to loosen the bolt that holds on an idler pulley on a 95 Buick Lesabre, I haven't really tried anything
ANSWER:
All you need to do is find a socket that fits it, should be 13mm or 15mm. then using a ratchet turn it counter clockwise. Remove the bolt and idler together. It may be easier to remove the serpentine belt before doing this. This can be done by inserting a 3/8" ratchet in the end of the tensioner and loosing the tensioner to allow the belt to be removed. Draw a picture of the belt routing for reference when installing.

The A/C blower motor remains on after the climate controller Off button is pressed
Question:
I have a 1994 Buick Park Avenue Ultra. The A/C blower motor remains on after the climate controller Off button is pressed. It also remains on after the ignition switch is turned off. Please advise as to what the problem is.
Answer:
Your problem is very common and is either a faulty blower relay or a blower fan control module. I would replace the relay first as it would be the easiest and most cost effective diagnosis. If my memory serves me correct the relay is near the firewall under the hood it should be marked on the cover. Check that first. You could switch it out with another relay under the hood and see if it fixes it.
