Best gas mileage vehicles - top 10 in U.S.

America has been broadsided with the $4 gallon and Americans are answering back with buying more fuel efficient vehicles. The Ford F-150 used to be the number one selling vehicle for the past 17 years but not anymore. In May of 2008 that all changed. Now Honda and Toyota has surpassed the mark and have sold more Civics and Corollas than the F-150.
This is a sign to the manufactures and they are taking measures by putting more efforts into creating new Hybrids and spending more on Research for the future "Gas Savers". There strategy so far has been to make the vehicle with less weight and Hybrid Technology .
The following is a list of the Top 10 most fuel efficient vehicles in the U.S. compiled by Car and Driver :

ENGINE WILL NOT TURN OVER

Question: I have a 2006 Mini Cooper and my engine will not turn over. I go to start my car and it just makes a clicking sound. Whats wrong? Answer: The battery has gone dead and does not have enough power to engage the starter and crank the engine or the lights were left on and drained the battery. Have the battery checked for voltage, should be a little more than 12 volts, and have a load test done to the battery. Quick checks you can make are, check the battery terminals for extreme corrosion and check that they are tight. Since this is fairly new, not so likely.

my car is over heating and i put in a new thermerstat

Question: I have a 1992 Chevrolet Cavalier and my car is over heating and i put in a new thermostat and i changed the two radiator hoses but it still over heats and smoking. Already Tried: changed the thermostat replace both radiator hoses Answer: If the some is coming from the exhaust, then you have a blown head gasket. If the smoke is coming from the engine, you have a leak... you will need to have a pressure test performed to find the leak. most likely the radiator or water pump as they are the most common. If the no smoke, just gauge going too high, make sure the fan is coming on. Engine Overheating Diagnostics

The AC is only blowing out the defrost vents

Question: The AC is only blowing out the defrost vents and not the front AC vents. What could be the problem?Optional Information: 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Answer; Automatic Climate Control: This is a common issue with the the Grand Cherokee's. This is caused by a failed electronic actuator that controls the mode(directional) door inside the air flow box mounted under the dash. Removal of the dash is required for this repair and can take up to 13 hours of labor. I do recommend having a dealer do this for you unless you are a seasoned mechanic. Manual Climate Control: A vacuum line going to the mode(directional) door manual vacuum actuator inside the air flow box mounted under the dash has cracked or the actuator has failed. Removal of the dash is required and can take up to 11 hours of labor.

the alarm keeps going off

Question: I have 95 993 that sat for while. Went out to start it - dead. Recharged battery, reinstalled, but the alarm keeps going off when I connect the battery terminals. How do I disable the alarm? Answer:

What you need to do : 1) Insert Ignition Key and turn it to the "ON" position (not start) 2) While leaving the Ignition key in the on position, connect the battery. 3) Move key to "start" and allow the engine to start.

With the key in the "on" position it allows it to synchronize with the engine computer when you connect the battery.

Gas Prices - Should I worry?

Gas prices are moving upward and prices of goods along with it. Should we be worried and panic. No, not really! There are some simple things you can do to help lower your costs for fuel but ultimately the price of just about everything is destine to go up no matter what you do. What one needs to do depends on the ability to pay but this simple tips will help you save money at the pump aside from the obvious.... don't drive as much as you used to.
  1. If you drive a 1996 or newer vehicle, use the lowest octane fuel. These vehicles have an on-board computer with sensors that will allow the use of low octane fuel without causing damage to the engine.
  2. Make sure to replace the engine air filter and fuel filter to help optimize fuel efficiency.
  3. If the "Check Engine Light" is illuminated, Get the repairs done to make it go out. It may seem to run fine, but at a cost of loosing miles per gallon it may be costing you as much as $10.00 a day depending on how far you drive.
  4. Keep Your Tires Properly Inflated - Underinflated tires require more energy to roll, which translates into more frequent fill-ups. You can improve your fuel economy by about 3.3 percent if you keep your tires inflated properly, according to the DOE.
  5. Drive Sensibly - Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) wastes gas. It can lower your gas mileage by 33 percent at highway speeds and by 5 percent around town.
