Code P0302 - Misfire

Customer Problem:
Customer brought in his 2003 VW Passat. He said it had the check engine light on and was running rough. In fact the check engine light was flashing on the dash.
Solution:
Performed computer diagnostics with our shops scan tool and retrieved the code P0302 which indicated a misfire on cylinder #2. This is typically a failed coil as this vehicle has the coil on boot setup. So we replaced the #2 Coil and that took care of the misfire. As a maintenance measure we replaced the spark plugs at the same time as it had 77,000 miles on it. The vehicle runs smooth now and the customer is happy. Computer diagnostics cost was $69.95 and the coil installed was $110.05 , total was $180.00 + tax.
