ok mines 88 s10 i know its old, but is there anyway to hook up a remote start to it? its a 4.3 throttle body if that matters to anything. nothing is really electric on it (no power locks no power windows its just a window crank) thanks a lot
Remote starters are avaliable for most automatic and fuel injected vehilcles at Autozone. They are fairly difficult to install unless your really good with wiring under the dash.
takes me out then. i better not buy and do then. it would be a disaster. only wiring i can do is like my dixie horn under my hood and rnning between the doors to under these plastic panels and stuff and my fog lights to battery and same way as i done horn to a toggle switch
Most shops that sell remote starters will install it for you as part of the cost. Why not just buy one from a shop that installs and then rely on them to do it right.
I bought one from Advance Auto parts and haven't got it working yet. It took me hours to wire it and it cranks but wont start. They want 200 to 400 to install them.
Ok, "real" winter - we had 22ยบ last month - brrrrr.
Back in the 80's after a meeting let out in the heat of the summer, a man said, watch this, he pressed a remote switch and his car started. He said he wanted the car cool when he got to it. Someone asked him if he was worried that someone might steal his car and he said no, as the doors were still locked - this was in Los Angeles.

What is the purpose of a remote start?
ReplyDeleteTo start your car from inside so it warms up by the time you leave. VERY helpful for those of us with a REAL winter...<

Yep - cooling as well.
ReplyDeleteThe remote starters have a circuit that will kill the engine if someone wants to steal the vehicle while running.
