Computer Diagnostics
Question:
What is computer diagnostics? I took my car into the shop because my check engine light is on and they said I needed computer diagnostics and all I wanted was the light to go out. Are they doing something that I don't need?
Answer:
Computer Diagnostics is in fact the first necessary step that needs to be taken when the check engine light has illuminated. The check engine light comes on to inform the operator that there is something wrong. The shop needs to connect a scan tool and read the codes that are set by the Computer. This gives the shop a code and description of what area of the vehicle is not performing correctly. Once the computer diagnostics are performed they can use this information to properly diagnose your problem and make the necessary repairs. Without performing computer diagnostics it would be like looking for a needle in a hay stack and cost you more in the long run.
