Whats the easiest way to change the plugs on a 2003 lightning?
Optional Information: 2003 Ford lightning 5.4 SC

Remove or disconnect the following:
The Coil On Plug (COP) electrical connectors
The eight fuel injector electrical connectors
The bolts (7mm)
The ignition coils
Use a 5/8 spark plug socket and remove spark plugs
To Install: Install or connect the following: The ignition coils The bolts Torque to: 62 inch-lbs (7 Nm) The eight fuel injector electrical connectors The Coil On Plug (COP) electrical connectors NOTE: Apply brake caliper grease to the inside of the coil boots.
You want to apply dielectric grease to the tubes instead of caliper grease.
ReplyDeleteI just read a Ford TSB on changing spark plugs, and Ford now suggests cleaning out the plug wells with compressed air, then just breaking loose the plug with hand tools ONLY and then spraying in some kind of break-free.
ReplyDeleteLetting it sit for 15-30 minutes and SLOWLY taking out the plugs will prevent problems later on. When you replace the plugs, use an anti-seize paste on the lower part of the electrode. Don't get it on the lowest part or you'll screw up the spark.
