Help troubleshoot? Blazer not starting

2000 S-10 Blazer. Got in it and it would not start. A neighbor who is handy said "starter" so we changed it. Did not help. Battery is good. When we turn the key we can hear the ignition relay click, but no idea what to check now.

  1. Check for battery voltage att he "S" terminal on the starter while someone holds the key in the "START" position and there foot on the brake pedal while in park. If you see battery voltage, replace starter. No voltage, trace wiring back through the gear position switch.

  2. the relay ..clicking...does not mean the contacts inside are ok

And there is difference between a relay clicking and a solenoid ..clicking

if there is a starter...relay...jump it, or replace it ...they are cheap

also.. jump the starter solenoid to see if the starter turns over, if so, replace solenoid

if nor..check the battery to ground connection on the car frame or motor

this is often overlooked and the starter cannot get the current it needs.

power goes from the key to the starter relay to the solenoid to the starter

    follow the chain

  3. What engine in this vehicle? Did you have same result after replacing starter? Was replacement starter a new one? If so the solenoid should have been on the starter so there is no other relay. This brings us back to connections cleaning either at the battery or the body/frame ground as mentioned.
