Cause
Confirmed the customer’s complaint and heard a clunking noise when the engine was started. Repeatedly started the engine, used an electronic stethoscope, and isolated the noise to the transmission bell housing. Removed the transaxle and torque converter, inspected the automatic transmission flexplate, and found it was cracked between the mounting bolt holes.
Correction
Adjusted the trunk latch, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly. The customer’s concern did not return.Replaced the automatic transmission flexplate and verified the vehicle operated properly. The customer’s concern did not return.
