At 45 to 50 mph pedal down 2000 Daewoo Nubira runs rough, let off pedal smooths out
I was just on an 11 hr highway drive and used cruise control a lot. The left wheel heated up and I got a new brake hose and caliper. Just checked alignment and speed balanced the wheels, Firestone said the tires did not seem to have a bad belt when on the speed balancer. No scan codes come up using the small auto parts store scanner. Firestone says they have an advanced scanner for a $99 test and it might show misfires in certain cylinders. I guess I should do the least expensive stuff first, like maybe a fuel filter, then what to try, something like a cam position sensor? It runs great up to about 40 mph. And when it starts running rough and vibrating a 45mph when accelerating, it smooths out when I get off the gas.
that could be a bad spark plug wire causing that
ReplyDeleteDoes it act up more on wet days?
ReplyDeleteIf so it could be spark plug wires. On a wet
night, in a dark place, while it's running, open the hood and look for
small blue sparks on the spark plug wires and at the coil(s). If you
see tiny sparks, you have electrical leakage at that point. You can
clean the wires and seal them, but you're just buying time and they
really should be replaced.
If it uses a distributor, it could also have sparks outside or inside
the distributor cap, leaking electricity there.
If the wiring is old, replacing it would be in order, especially if
it's original. Same for spark plugs--they can misfire at higher speeds
if they have accumulated deposits on the contacts. Youc an try to
clean the plugs, but replacements aren't expensive and you'll rule out
bad plugs. It's a very rare thing to have a bad new plug.
