90 dodge starts then dies after a few minutes

I have a 90 dodge dakota and it will start but when it starts it wil run fine for bout 45 seconds and then it snuffs itself out but will stay running if i give it some gas but it spits and sputters then will smooth out and stay running as long as i keep giving it gas and when i stop giving it gas it will snuff it self out and i cant figure out what the problem is

    could be fuel filter

    Its getting gas so i dont think its the fuel filter

    it could be limiting your fuel to your engine causing you to have to give it gas for it to run
