How to Install a Subwoofer In Your Car

If you love music, and want high quality music in your car on the go, chances are you want to install a subwoofer. But if you don’t know how, then what do you do?

Well, the first thing you’re going to want to do is pick up an amplifier and subwoofer of your choosing. Make sure they are compatible with each other, and with your headunit.

Next, buy a wiring kit that will work for your sound system. The wires can be anywhere from 20 gauge (smallest) to 0 gauge (biggest). I recommend that you use what is suggested by the company that made the components.

After that, you can begin routing your power source. Start by putting an “O” ring connector on one part of the wire. Next, find a firewall port and cut or drill a small hole in it, big enough so the wire can fit through, but small enough so that it is snug around the wire. Run it under trim inside of the car, until you reach the sub. Now, to install the power cable, remove your negative battery cable, and then take the bolt all the way off the positive cable. After you’ve done that, put the o ring connector on the positive cable and put the bolt back on. Next, tighten the negative cable back up. If you don’t do it in this order, you could get sparks, and because batteries emit hydrogen gas, then you would be dealing with an explosion hazard, and do not want sparks flying through the air.

After you’ve done that, take out your headunit, and find the wire that is the “Constant 12V” wire, then cut it and splice it inline with your remote wire. Run that to the trunk where your subwoofer is. Next, hook up your RCA cables to the Headunit’s “output” area, and run those to the trunk, by hiding them under the trim. After you’ve done that hook everything up, extending from your Amp to the Sub. Everything will be listed on the Amp and Sub itself. After you’ve done that you want to attach another “O” ring to your ground wire, and find an unpainted surface near where you put the subwoofer, and bolt it there, so that it has a solid ground. After you’ve done all of that, it’s time to test it out and start tuning!
